Ziwawa! Music for democracy in Malawi
Parties, churches, and councils across Malawi, as well as the international community have been working in all manner of ways to keep the peace and make sure this week's elections pass off freely and fairly.
Our partners at CMD-K produced one of the more creative efforts with this make-you-want-to-get-up-and-dance radio song, asking Malawians to refrain from violence as the results are processed. The song, Ziwawa! was played all night on Malawian radio as polls closed and the counting got underway: Listen here
Travelling around Malawi since, CMD-K Director Kizito Tenthani said "so far, it has been all peaceful, but its still a volatile situation"
The Malawi Electoral Commission is expected to hold a news conference Thursday morning to announce the final results.
On Tuesday 26th May an EVF / Cordaid / NIMD sponsored Malawi Elections Debate will take place in Amsterdam

NIMD Soapbox (formerly known as 'Observations') is a blog about democracy and democracy assistance work.
