Broadening the horizon

Exchanging experiences with Guatemalan youth

Today we finally gave our big presentation at the multiparty youth conference. We had 45 minutes to present our views and experience on youth participation in the Netherlands. We decided to focus on four themes: political youth organizations as a key between youth and politics; training and empowerment; political youth organizations and the political parties and using the media to get your message across.

We used many examples, such as movies and pictures from our experiences to broaden their horizon. The presentation was a great success. We received lots of laughs and questions afterwards. Many of our examples were pointed out and used by the Guatemaltecan participants in the workshops afterwards, in which we also took part. The overall goal of the working groups was to present common views on solutions and visions on Guatemaltecan politics. The emphasis was on reaching common grounds, regardless of political colors. We believe they managed to have fruitfull discussions and outcomes.

In the evening there was time for a little party and room to further discuss the differences between Dutch and Guatemaltecan politics. We had a great time!
